The Value of Practical Wisdom

When People hear my name do they think of God?

“A good name is better than precious ointment. And the day of death than the day of one’s birth.” (Ecclesiastes 7:1, NKJ)

It is so important to God for us to have a good name. The “aroma of my character” reflects on the name of Jesus. Upon your death you will be remembered for what you have done. *Death is always a reminder of God’s control.

*4 Things for a wise man’s outlook taken from Ecclesiastes Chapter 7

1.) A Right Heart

“The Heart of the wise in the house of mourning. But the heart of the fools is wise in the house of mirth.” (Ecclesiastes 7:4, NKJ)

A right heart understands what God is doing to produce righteousness. A right heart is full of hope, faith, & love.

2.) A Discerning Mind

“It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise” (Ecclesiastes 7:5, NKJ)

A discerning mind understands accountability, his own humanity, and his own need for corrections.

3.) A Disciplined Spirit

“The end of a thing is better than it’s beginning; A patient in spirit is better than the proud in spirit” (Ecclesiastes 7:8, NKJ)

Live a long term approach. (Vision) Focus more on delayed gratification opposed to immediate gratification. Avoid impulsive behavior.

4.) Exercise Control

“Do not hasten in your spirit to be angry, For anger rests in the bosom of fools” (Ecclesiastes 7:9, NKJ)

Exercise control and remember that anger is a choice. Anger is a major red flag and is a big one to avoid. A controlled spirit is a redeemed one; one that keeps on growing.

***It is my prayer and encouragement this week that you will pray for practical wisdom & the 4 things I discussed above. I choose to focus on these 4 things because they have an incredibility important role in our growth & have been simple for me remember, focus on, & pray for everyday.

Love you guys,

Frank
